That's correct Daniel. That's a great example. The reason why "the absolute value of /-9/ is greater is because value of the number is 9 which is bigger than 8. When it comes to absolute number, think about value, or worth. Even though is -9, the value is still 9. I always think of it as money.
Another way that I think about when ever they ask me about absolute number I pretend that those two lines / / are a house and I say that the number needs to come out of the house before I solve it, and they always come out positive.
